Macintosh users have put up with it for years - people calling their computers MACs or something of the sort, as if the letters M, A and C were an acronym.

Now the same thing is happening with the beloved iPod. It's not like iPod is hard to spell. So why do people in the press seem to call them I-Pods, then?

Somehow, they never seem to mess up Microsofts' silly names: Windows XP Home Edition. So why do people tend to screw up Apple names?

Because no one gives ****. Honestly.

Half the people who trash Apple products don't know the slightest thing about them.

I think most of the people who screw them up think there's an 'i' before every word.

Part of the confusion is that MAC is a valid, common acronym.

uNusuAl capitalization r-esults in funny things.

Because most people have crappy reading comprehension, crappy spelling skills, and short attention spans.

Try to teach the average person *anything* related to computers, and it's guaranteed they'll be asking you about the same thing tomorrow.

I had a drunken friend use my G4 for some web surfing and eventually he said "Wow, your computer runs really good"

I told him it was my best Mac so far and he looked at me stunned. Apparently, he had not known that he was using a Mac. Several minutes later he told me that Macs were "gay" although he has just commented on its snappy™ performance earlier.

Now he is no PC genius, but certainly an M$ fanboy that will use his Dell with integrated graphics and XP Home edition and think it is the sweetest machine around.

"Macs are gay"

Ha!

Priceless.

Like Mduell said, people confuse "Mac" for an acronym instead of an abreviation. And people are trained to capitalize acronyms so there you have it.

This one is because of the awkwardness of the lowercase "i". There's a large contingent of copy editors whom that really pisses off, I think.

So true… just a comparison between "¡Mac!" , "iMac!" and "¡iMac!"

first one: " ¡ Mac ! "

second one: " iMac ! "

third one: " ¡ iMac ! "

aaahh… our beloved spanish inverted exclamation mark " ¡ "
