Is it being televised? I missed those. I remember in grade school in the early to mid 80s we'd go into the library and watch it lift off. I was a Space Shuttle nut K-3rd grade. All kinds of models and books on the thing.
I didn't care about the star wars space ships. The Space Shuttle was real.
My brother-in-law got to see it up close many times when he was in the air force. Brought back many pictures.
I don't think it's replacement is going to be as elegant or neat as it was.
Rockets never impressed me. This thing actually LOOKED like a spaceship.

Doesn't NASA always put the video on their web site too? I watched the last landing that way. I'm afraid that I'll never get to see a live shuttle launch-too busy at school and stuff to cut loose and head out there to see it, drat it all.

Yeah my bro-in-law was stationed in Texas when he saw it. He said it was a piece of working art. I am jealous.

I hear it is still on schedule but they might secretly add iTunes like scrollbars last minute as one of the top secret features Steve mentioned.

If you get the NASA channel on satellite or cable, you can watch launches live. Since that channel is public domain, it's often available (on Dish Network at least) even if your service is otherwise inactive.

Be careful though, you might be accused of character assassination and fanboyism for saying that. And so I don't get accused of it too for not saying anything on topic...
CNN.com usually has it on their site too in the live video section.

Here at work we get to see the liftoff! Working at NASA does have it's perks.

I watched a launch from just across the lake in Cape Canaveral in the mid-eighties. We were pretty freakin close and it was really cool. I've seen 4 or 5 launches otherwise from down here in S. Florida, depending on the time of day and weather, it still looks pretty cool from hundreds of miles away.

NASA should sell HD-DVD and BluRays of their shuttle launches for like $10. Those would be cool.

HDnet does; in their best of series. It isn't all shuttle launches; but the HD-DVD content is still very nice.
