My ear hair is almost as bad as that at 36.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

It's too mottled to be sunburn, and it doesn't itch, so I'm assuming not poison ivy. I also can't think of where I would have rubbed against any.

My best guess is some type of contact allergy.

My summer uniform is cargo shorts and flip-flops. This is non-negotiable.

In summer I wear a boonie hat, and I can pull it off, but I think I'm aided by the obvious utilitarian angle. From an overall fashion standpoint though, caps work better for me.

Mostly the same. I like wearing beanies and "slouchy" beanies, but our winter only lasts a week.

My skull is way too small, so any other hat looks enormous.

I definitely avoid headgear when possible. The summer hat is to avoid frying the top of my skull.

Was in a close to a month long don’t give AF phase. Things which required it, like thanksgiving, kept getting canceled, so I kept pushing it until the last second, which was this morning.

Unfortunately, duty requires me to pull out the pedant badge and write a citation.

I actually did trim my beard a few days ago, which is why it’s at about the same length as the rest, and it’s not really a goatee because I have a mustache. Where I slacked was shaving.

The fine is 10 cryptos.

That... looks like a much better show than we have at Catholic funerals.

I dunno...

I used to work at a funeral home. The Catholic funerals were the second-most intense I'd attended, but that might mostly be because I wasn't used to all the incense and chanting.

God is theoretically supposed to lift you up. I don’t know how white Baptist churches operate, but the black ones I’ve seen get the idea.

The Catholic churches I’ve been to do this through a sort of “reverse psychology”. They beat you down a lot, and from these depths, one can be lifted by the glory of god. It doesn’t really leave much room for anything other than the intensity of deep contemplation.

This obviously has its place, but when pursued to the exclusion of all else, it’s ultimately a very cold experience of something which (IMO) is supposed to be, like... the opposite.

I've never been in a church that modern. Most of ours are centuries old.

This one wasn't finished until the 70s, but it took like 100 years to build so it looks older.

In the tower there is a large bell in a very large and otherwise pretty empty room. Its so big and so empty I got a touch of vertigo just being in it, on a little walkway abut halfway up one side.

Black Baptist churches have a lot in common with Pentecostal churches. Interaction during service is not only permissible but highly encouraged. Upbeat music, elements of spontaneity, etc.

I've always been jealous of some of those buildings. Europe's architecture as a hole has that effect on me.

A friend of mine in Liverpool told me a lot of vacant UK churches are being converted into pubs. That true?

As someone who was raised in a Black Baptist Church I approve of this observation. The experience is essentially a syncretism of Western theology and ancient African spirituality.
