My friend wants to unload his PPC mini on me for $200 and I'm debating whether I should take it (since I'm in desperate need of a new system) or find a way to get the extra $300 and get a brand new Intel one from Apple.

What does everyone think? Is Intel worth it? Or is $200 too good of a deal to pass up?

200 sounds like a pretty good deal as long as there are no problems with it. if i were gonna get the intel one i would want the dual core $799. the $599 mac mini is 1.5 ghz single core. i think the second core has a lot to do with the performance increase of the intel cpu's.

$200 is certainly a great deal. It should be fine for surfing, writing some documents, or simple things of that nature. Just don't expect too much from it.

There's nothing wrong with the G4 Mini, especially if it has all the bells and whistles (Bluetooth and AirPort to be specific). It's just not as fast or new as the Intel Mini. If I had that offer in your position, I'd jump at it.

say what? There is no reason you can't do just about anything outside of aperture with the Mini and at good speeds.

Just max out the RAM. $200 is a good deal.

Saying not to expect much from it seems strange to me considering my main computer was a 450 mHz G4 cube until about a year ago, and it didn't seem slow for any tasks, including some photoshop CS and gaming in addition to the usual stuff.
g4/1.5 GHz 12 inch powerbook / 1.25 RAM / 80 gig / Superdrive / 10.5.6
g3/400 MHz Pismo / 640 RAM / 40 gig / Combo Drive / 10.3.9

How come this is the exact same line said about any computer that is more than 6 months old? "Oh, well, it used to be able to run iLife '05 like a bat out of hell, but now that something newer is around, it's totally useless save email, textedit and maybe some surfing."
