Anyone know of a disk defrag program available for OSX?

Noron6 SpeedDisk works perfect for me every time. No it doesn't run on OSX but you have to start up from a CD or another partition/drive anyway to defrag, so it doesn't really matter what OS it runs on, does it? And there are OSX profiles available for it. Norton6 Disk Doctor also fixes all my problems with OSX too... I swear by it. Norton7 runs on OSX and is coming out really soon.

Where can someone get the OSX profiles for Norton Speed Disk? They don't come with it obviously, are they downloadable on Symantec's site, or did someone else make them?

I can't remember where I got it, but I put it on my iDisk. It seems to work great. I've used it at least 10 times over the last year. (Yeah, I'm a neat freak! Wanna make something of it?)

Has anyone had success with DiscWarrior's PlusOptimizer for their OSX drive?

I've used the disk repair utility but I've been kinda scared to use the optimizer.

I'm interested too about DiskWarrior and PlusOptimizer. Which is better? Plus Optimizer or SpeedDisk?
And I heard that OSX doesn't need to be defragmented. I have an iMac LCD (1Gb Ram).

Actually OS X needs defragmentation software badly. Due to the memory management, OS X accesses the HD quite often (except you are blessed with tons of RAM), thus fragments the HD a lot faster than OS 9.

And which is better for OSX? NortonUtilities with SpeedDisk or DiskWarrior with PlusOptimizer?

My impression is that Speed Disk with an OS X profile gives you a slightly speedier system after using it. But PlusOptimizer is definitely safer. If you have a crash or power failure while using PO, no problem. If it happens while you're running SD, your drive will have major damage.

They provide a "map" for Speed Disk's arrangement of your files. You put custom profiles in the Speed Disk Profiles folder, which is in Norton Utilities Folder &gt; Norton Tools. Then select the OS X profile from the Options menu before running Speed Disk.

there's an extensive thread on this a few months back: if you search for "defrag" and "optimize" you should find it.

I have used DiskWarrior and the PlusOptimizer pretty often, and with no problems. I don't have a problem recommending it, although YMMV, of course. No experience wth the Norton tools, though.

I pretty much use the DW and PlusOpt every so often, and fsck as well, especially if there is a crash requiring a hard reboot (very rarely)

In the new version of Norton Utilities, Speed Disk isn't include anymore. But they have put DiskWarrior. Is that a sign that they recommend you not to use SpeedDisk with OSX?

I read there that some persons don't like it.
