Apple's contributions to Product (RED) have reached $70 million, according to the charity's Twitter
account. That implies an increase of $5 million since September 2013. Apple is the biggest individual contributor to (RED), and has been participating in the charity since 2006.
Product (RED) takes a portion of the proceeds from some products and channels them to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Despite being (RED)'s biggest supporter, Apple's participation has been mildly controversial. None of the company's flagship products -- iPhones, iPads, and Macs -- are available in (RED) versions, limiting the amount of money the company has to donate. Instead the company generates money for the cause via sales of select iPods, and some iPhone and iPad cases.
