Getting my girlfriend a ring. She's been around for almost 6 years now. For the sake of simplicity let's call this an engagement ring. I need to decide what to engrave on the inside of the band. Any suggestion?

wicked and/or silly ideas welcomed.

The title of "your song." The date on which the two of you "became a couple." Something like that...

If you're going for funny/cute, go with something that commemorate the way you ask. For example, if you put the ring in a piece of cherry cheesecake, inscribe "cherry cheesecake"

If you want uber-romantic, go with a line from a love song, or, as mentioned above, "your song"

Not that much will fit on the inside band of a ring. The date you met, the date you'll give it to her, a nickname, her and your initials, an inside joke.

Unless your song is "I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For..." that might not go over so well.

Might not work with Cee Lo's "F*ck You" either

Which reminds me,

whats the proper etiquette for ring purchasing pre-engagement? What are the implications?

Getting married. It's a major risk in getting engaged.

Of this I'm aware. Mine is european. One thing about at least her, is every fourth day is a holiday in which I am expected to buy a gift. Name day, birthday, Coming back from traveling day, dog's birthday, dog's nameday, miscellaneous holiday, etc etc etc. I love buying her gifts but I've exhausted the jewelry option (saving mainly for birthdays and christmas) in all aspects except the ring.

She maintains that I could buy a nice non-diamond ring with implying anything, but my greater intuition tells me different.
