Is there anyway to protect certain folders or files from being opened using a password? (enter password before it opens)
I have to share my MB for a few weeks and I want to prevent him from going in certain private folders and files I have.
Anyone know how I can do this?
Thanks

The easiest way to do this is to use Disc Utility to create an encrypted disc image.

Or else just create a new account for the person, and don't give him the password to yours.

How does that work? Wouldn't it open the disk image then?

Yes, after asking for your password.

you can also check versiontracker.com; there are a number of shareware apps that let you lock (and unlock!) select folders...

I don't want to open up a disc image though, I want to beable to open up the original file after the password is entered.
I'll look on versiontracker in the meantime.
Thanks

Try the disc image route - it may not be as far from what you want as you think.

I know someone that uses this Crypt3 20060601 - Mac OS X - VersionTracker
It does files for free or $10 to do folders. They have it running on a MacBook Pro and two G4 PowerBooks and as far as i know have never had a problem.
The other option is to give them their own user account on your MB, that why all the files in your home folder will be password protected. Just don't give them an Admin account.
