I am trying to migrate a Windows PC using XP Home Edition to my iMac OSX 10.6.8 with VMWare Fusion 4. The migration starts and runs for 15-25 minutes and I get this message: File\i386\halaacpi.dll cannot be installed. Error code 32768. Naturally, I have no clue what this means or how it work around it.

In Wiindows, HAL stands for "Hardware Abstraction Layer," which is the interface between the core of the OS and the physical machine. Your VM is not the same "hardware" as the machine you're migrating, so that file won't work anyway. Take a look at Windows' migration tool, but it will require an install disc, do you may as well go ahead and install the bare-bones OS on your VM and then migrate the user profile to that. (Which is what the migration tool will do anyway...)

VMWare is getting confused. It's trying to pull from a single processor computer into a multiple processor VM. (The HAL it's reporting is the Uniprocessor HAL)

Sounds like time to reinstall XP in the VM. That should correct the issue. As always, back up all of your data first, and be ready to reinstall any apps you run in XP.
