I consider that beer to be a full meal.

I used to love those beers.

If you ever go in Quebec City, there are 2 Pubs, one called Pub Alexander, and there is also another, by the river.. The Thomas Dunn.

They have more than 300 sorts of beers, and you should see their Scotch ...

Some of the regulars have their chops (beautifully handcrafted) in a locker... waiting for them...

Aaahhh... memories of beers...

My vaorite is The Guinness though...

The burned taste comes from the hops being burned. Go figure.

Guiness is like a meal a dessert and a beverage all-in-one. It is a rare treat for me.

Now you must try a Black and Tan (which is Guiness floated on Bass Pale ale), and the extremely yummy Half and Half (which is Guiness floated on Harp Lager).

Black and Tans are easy to come by, if the local pub has Guiness on tap, they usually have Bass on tap. Half and Halfs are a bit more difficult to come by. Usually one must go to and Irish pub to find Harp on tap, but Half and Halfs are worth the search. Creamy toasted Guiness on top, crisp light buttery Harp on bottom. Fantastic!

Plus, you feel cool going into a pub and ordering a "Half n Half". It's like you're inside the circle!
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

You've never experienced Gunniess until you drink it in Dublin, and preferebly direct from the brewery!

It's also not a beer, but a Stout.

Having just got back from a conference where we spent our last evening with a free bar in the Gunniess brewery in Dublin, I speak from 12 pints in a night experience!

Your right though, it is a meal in a glass, and can be heavy going once you've had a few pints, but it's nice all the same.

At University Gunniess always used to come round and have a student night on campus, where everyone in the bar got two free pints of Guinness Extra Cold (Gunniess draught put through the cooler twice).

The best thing was that most of the girls didn't like Guiness, so me and all my male friends usually had 10 pints in a night for FREE!!!

If you have the opportunity... Drink Guinness - It's Good For You!

get the guinness from the TAP, in a bar that serves alot of it, for the bestest guinness experience. the cans and bottles dont do it justice IMO.

ps. go find a local* brewery and sample some of their stouts. they have some nice ones here. arbor brewing co in ann arbor, mi.

*if guinness is your local brewery, you are teh winnar.

Yes. Inside the circle of people who'd be shot on sight in Ireland. Why would you want to ruin a perfect pint of Guinness by 'floating' it on top of another perfectly fine beer?

Over here (US) all these smart asses try to tell me that "The only way to drink Guinness is warm," and "That's how they drink it in Ireland." But a friend of mine just spent a semester in Dublin and he said that's a bunch of BS. Cold is the way to go.

PS Last St. Patrick's Day: 2:00 pm-2:30 am, fifteen pints! Yeah, I'm a champ.

Guinness has always been served at cellar temperature whereas beer (as in bitter) has traditionally been served at bar temperature.

And fresh. Old Guinness is really bad. If the head isn't white, don't drink it.

Mmmm. I'm feeling quite Guinnless right about now.

Geez, stop banging the trash can lid on the ground!

You want heathen? I also drink it straight out of the can whenever I'm at a shindig with my Irish pals. Annoys the hell out of 'em. They (not too) politely inform me that that is an atrocity. I inform them that they're right, smile, and have another pull.

'Sides, I can always get back in their good graces by saying "I love my sheep" in Gaelic. Not "I love your sheep." That could cause problems...

The extra cold is good, its chilled so much it stays cool for 30 minutes on a hot day.

Pubs which have extra cold always have normal guinness too.

In china the guinness is airfreighted in from Singapore, costs about 9US for a pint.

If you like stouts, try Murphy's Irish Stout. I like it much better and it doesn't have such a bad aftertaste to it.

Guinness shouldn't have an aftertaste to it either....

Well, if it's been properly cooled, and you drink it within a reasonable time it won't anyway.

Guinness in Ireland almost never has an aftertaste... must be the difference in the water they use at different brewery sites. Direct from the factory in Dublin it went down like a dream...
