Muahahaha

[A] liberal Democrat running for reelection in North Carolina uses a photo of World War II German soldiers in a campaign advertisement designed to highlight his support for members of the American military.

Meh. Stock footage fail. Hardly as sensational as your title made it out to be.

Nitpick: the German army was not the Nazi Party.

I don't think it's a fault on part of the politician, or sensational.

I really just think it's funny.

Considering you had to swear an oath towards Hitler himself, the man in charge of the Nazi party, how was the German army not Nazi?

Makes you wonder what kind of nitwit chose the actual photo: the WWII context aside, the photo doesn't exactly scream US military.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

The German military was originally completely separate from the Nazi political party. While Hitler eventually incorporated the military into the Wehrmacht, members of the Wehrmacht were not allowed to associate with a political party or to even vote.

Army, airmen, and seamen were well documented to have objected to the formation of Wehrmacht, and didn't want politically charged soldiers entering their ranks. It is argued that the military was largely formed of non-Nazi members.

However, as Hitler gained power with paramilitary groups like the SA and SS, the lines between soldier and political activist blurred. Eventually even military personel joined the SA and SS in violation of their constitution.

The military hierarchy was a complete mess after the formation of Wehrmacht. You had civilians with no military background giving orders to veteran soldiers simply because they were friends with Hitler.

Who's your "commander in chief" again? What's his military background?

More importantly, what is his relationship to Hitler?

That is a very different command structure, and the President of the U.S. generally isn't on the battle field giving orders, or having Joe the Plumber telling a 2 star general how and where to move his armored division. The President may lead an overall direction for a campaign, and does have ultimate authority, but it's usually at the advice of the representatives from each division of our armed foces.

Hitler just had his friends littered throughout the military, and the military hated it.

I don't know, but I bet the History Channel will find out.

True, but nontheless, I think when you're swearing an oath of allegiance to the head of the only allow political party, you're being part of that political party.

I wonder if that's how General McChrystal sees things?

Now ? He's more relaxed than ever

Just think: his only boss now is his wife. Much easier to handle.
