Newbie to the forum (breezed in looking for "OBN" cures)...

Here's my set up (on the look out for speakers - considering the JBL Creatures)

PeeCee is for benchtesting web sites/gaming - but as soon as the likes of HL2 reach that G5/9800 the PeeCee is dust!

more pics at my .mac site...

I am now seriously tempted to buy a G5 and Cinema Display today.

No, I'll go and buy the display only and schtick it to my PB17.

Despite the rumoured update coming to the cinema displays - I have not regretted my very expensive 23" CD purchase.

I work in InDesign/Photoshop all day long - it's changed my productivity massively.

Best buy I ever made IMO!

Four production companies just asked for several of my screenplays so I want to go ultra wide screen to work on them before submitting them. I'm going to knock their fubar socks off. My Alu17 won't do.

I find my Logitech mouse tracks very well on the aluminum mousepad.

The Apple mouse had troubles though.

I do have another pad. The pad just kind of adds a touch of class to the system.

Hmm, ok I have been shuffling things around on my desk. What way do you like the G5 sitting better on my desk. Sideways as in the begining of this thread or this way, with or without panel?

Ahh, stress....

GOT NEWS!

I went to the Grove Apple Store to buy a 23 inch Cinema Display. I also need an DVI>ADC convertor to attach it to my Powerbook. Well, no convertors were in stock and the rumor was that they were being replaced with a new design. But I went down to the Santa Monica branch to double check and the same thing happened.

I hope the new design is in aluminium and that new monitors come out too!

It is cheap. I got another gig for a total of 1.5 but Photoshop eats it up in a second so I am getting another gig within a month or 2.

I agree. They don't really go well with the G5.

No, we think the mods suck because the inside of a PC is normally messy and looks like sh!t. The inside of a G5 is however piece of art.

The fact that you guys are commenting on my lamp yet letting this slide is hilarious.

Ya, that orange thing goes so well with everything.

This thread needs the ability to have a ratings system on everyone's setup. I'll tak a stab.

SWG: 5/5
DeltaOp: 4/5
devmage: 2/5
Jzilla: 5/5
teh tenk: 3/5 (mercy point because of the purdue dorm room thing)
AngryAngel: 3/5
ckohler: 4/5

I won't rate myself since I would be biased.

It's a LaCie D2 60GB Firewire drive. I used it on my G4 to mirror the OSX and OS9 partitions and hold backed-up work files (using BackUp Toolkit OSX).

I also have a Firefly 5gb HDD for moving files between my home office and clients Macs.

Both have real neat blue LEDs. Blue LEDs of course rule.

Nope, since you have such a strong design sense I want to see what the sources skills can come up with no-matter what computer you have.

I will not say you suck.

Unfortunately that is not true 5.1. I got those speakers from my brother. I will be hooking my G5 up to my Kenwood 5.1 receiver soon though.

Picked up my Dual from CompUSA yesterday.

Ordered in-store Sept 14.
Received in-store Oct 8

- Put in two sticks of RAM from Crucial
- Upon restart, system did NOT recognize stock 512, only Crucial memory.
- Moved Crucial memory to far slots - works fine

Basically you guys know the gist of this. All I can verify is that this thing is a beast. Fastest thing I have every used. Fast, Fast, Fast!!!!!

I don't care about the HD sounds. It's a bigger machine/engine so it'll be a bit louder.

Well worth the wait!

Excuse the mess as I am migrating from old dual 450 G4 to the Dual 2Ghz.
Here's another G5 owner shot:

It's like going from a VW into a Porche - really, it's like that different.

Please stick to the existing thread(s). Merged SF_VR6's thread with this one.

It's cold here and to save on the heating costs, we use the dual as a room warmer.

no really, I have my G4 to the far left facing backwards to so I can have easy access to ethernet and firewire cables while I do the migration from one machine to the next.

Its messy for now but it really helps me get to the plugs easier. Once all is setup everything will be tucked away underneath the desk again.

It's a temporary placement since I don't have it on all the time. Plus I switch it between the G5, PB, iMac and iBook.
