Apple will be issuing an important update to the Apple Store app for the iPhone on Tuesday, an anonymous source claims. The app is reportedly redesigned, with an interface following after the App Store, iTunes Store, and iBookstore. Part of the reason for this is that the app will promote downloadable content, even offering some of it for free for a limited time.

The company is reportedly trying to boost awareness of its digital content. Still more sources say that the app is also meant to tie into an initiative at retail stores, where clerks will be urged to install the Apple Store app on new devices. At a retail summit last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that only about 20 percent of the company's customers are aware of the app's existence.

The sources note that a previous Apple Store update was similarly meant to push people towards direct sales. That one added push notifications for iPhone upgrade eligibility, in the hope of not only selling more iPhones, but doing so through Apple instead of carriers or third-party retailers.

... it would be nice if it both rotated and was universal ie ipad capable...? Seems kind of ironic coming from the source that it works like a legacy app that has never been updated to take full advantage of its own new hardware ... ?
