Here's an idea I had for a theme. Not sure if I'll actually make it...but just wanted to show it. Probably no one here will like it anyways.
O, Canada

I really really like the window title bar look, but the red grid background has to go, because it makes text illegible.. however, there is definitely some potential here. I say stick with a simple white background, and keep the red patterns in the menubar/title bar and customize the buttons. It could look very cool (a red/white theme).

yes, the red grid does make it look bad. but other than that, good job. i think we need more crazy funny themes. even if no one uses them, it makes us mac users look more creative than our pc brothers

Wouldn't expect you to like it; you're a seperatist. Doesn't matter, it's just a mock-up...never said I would make it, just wanted to get the idea out of my head. You didn't like my "Oh, Canada" dock skin either. Anyhow, I've "lightened" the grid, reload the images if you've seen them before.

Like I said, it's just a mock-up, I'm not planning on creating a theme. Besides, it is original...don't know why you would say it isn't and you'd be surprise at how many people would use it. Quite a few people downloaded my "Oh, Canada" dock skin.
I updated the right endcap to make it look less "PetroCanad-y".
On a side note, why did you rename PodNews? At least you should have rename it "MiPod"

I'm pretty sure that you could concentrate on an original creation that non-patriotic-canadians and non-canadian would use
Do what you want, it's just my opinion

I'm not creating anything. And you don't have to be patriotic to use it, just love red and white...with a maple leaf here and there.

HeHeHe i'm surprised I haven't read a single "Canada sux0rz" post yet. It's a neat design but I wouldn't use it, i'm partial to aqua extreme.

For the uninitiated, Homer once refered to Canada as North Mexico in an episode of The Simpsons.

I'd probably never use it myself, being a devoted Max fanboy and all, but I have a question and some commentary:
I really like the overall look of the mockup, the x-+ buttons especially, the leaf idea is very nice looking. I also like how the red and the white contrast. However, the honeycomb pattern really confuses me. Why is it there? Why not one of these three choices: white, red, or white with light red pinstripes? The whole honeycomb thing just look out of place, and lightening it didn't do the mockup any justice, as it now kinda clashes with the deep red of the scrollbars and titlebar. Of course, I am just an arrogant American, so there is the great possibility that I'm overlooking something.
Also, is it possible to make a theme where the left endcap of the titlebar is shaped like the leaves? Will it work the same in Carbon and Cocoa apps? That would actually be *very* cool, although I would suggest changing the right endcap to "match" (ie maybe use the middle leaf for the right encap, so it would be assymetric) instead of being rounded like Aqua.
Regardless a fine job as always.
PS. allap: there have been a couple "Canada sux0rz" posts, they were just a little less blatant than usual.

Ok, I've reworked the mock-up and decided to keep the old right endcap. The hexagon grid is there because I haven't seen it used in any Mac OS X theme lately and because I think it looks cool and "techno-y". A simple red would look bland, white would look bright and white with red would be too christmas/candy cane like. I'm keeping it
Thanks for the explanation Ozmodiar; glad you like it even though you're not canadian...that proves ambush wrong. When you said "North Mexico" I thought you actually meant North part of Mexico I was born in Mexico...and I'm proud of being Mexican and Canadian.

Well, it's definetly a original theme. And the titlebar is pretty neat.
But.. what happened to the Xbox theme?

XOSX is dormant. I'm taking a vacation from themes right now, sticking to good old Aqua Xtreme at the moment. This is simply a mock-up of something that I just had to get out of my head. I made some updates to XOSX that I haven't mentioned in it's thread....I even managed to make the disabled menu items a dark visible green on the black background, who said it wasn't possible to change it's font colour? (there u go mrtew, u got what u asked for) I managed to do it with your help Max, thanks. Also I sort of ran into...hmm...lack of inspiration, so I had to give it a break and step back. Finally, thanks to William B., I decided to approach theme creating from a different angle....by firstly creating a complete mock-up in Photoshop....much easier and better that way

Ok, sounds good. I agree with William and you that a complete mockup is the way to go.
I also know that it can be hard to finish a theme. But I think you should make a complete theme sometime, because they all have potential, they just need to be finished..! Anyway, keep up the good work!

Well, this is what the menubar would look like:
The highlight would be white and the menus background would be the red hexagon pattern with 90 or 95% transperancy.

You'd be surprised at the number of people from South Canada (taking my cue from the Canadian World Domination Website) would use that theme. I emailed the image to 10 people and they want the whole enchilada (or back-bacon sandwich) .

Thanks everyone.... I had a great b-day. And I didn't mind the snow, it was actually quite beautiful.
So, it would seem this theme has become quite popular...maybe I should charge for it Although donations might be nice Haven't received any so far
I'll start putting it together this w/e probably...no promises...I'll also try to update my other themes.
P.S. This theme will go great with my "Oh, Canada" dock skin:

The shiny white reflection is much too close to the top border of the folder in my opinion. take a look at other aqua-ish icons.
