So does this mean we'll be able to get full support for Macs now from Sony? Or maybe some third party will provide a way?

You will be able to copy normally from minidisc, just like before, except now it will have slightly better quality.

If you want to put your mp3 to minidisc netmd, then I saw a program somewhere that allows you to do that.

And its optical, not spdif, you need an ac-powered converter to connect G5 PM to spdif taking sound systems.

How could I expand a 17" PowerBook with optical in/out (SPDIF) like the PM G5?

Having optical outs will mean nothing to Sony. NetMD uses USB anyway.
But it will mean a better quality recording, and hopefully iTunes sends the signal for track marking. If that's the case, using that in combination with XMD (for titling), you get a pretty good NetMD replacement. Real time recording being the trade off for better quality recording. (since via optical you can record in SP. NetMD doesn't support SP - it just records LP2 and disguises it as SP)

The sound recorded by NetMD is crap. Same LP4, the sound is much better if recorded by optical out than NetMD.
Got a 12" Powerbook ^__^
