At work we have an authenticating proxy (Win2kServer) which works fine with My mac. I use Authoxy so I don't have to enter the proxy login information. This works fine for Software Update, Sherlock, Safari, iTunes, etc, but not for mail. I realize that Mail uses different ports and those aren't forwarded anywhere right now. What I'm wondering is if this is possible from the command line or any other way? Can Apple Mail be configured to communicate with the .mac mail servers on port 80 or some other commonly unblocked port?
