I first wanted to say: "The mini is positioned awful." (I actually had written that already)

But then I realised that this looks pretty much like the target environment, since there's only PC-hardware. I went back (one page in my browser) to check your postcount. One post (welcome to MacNN). So I thought, don't be an arsehole and make it look like "we" Mac users were way too design freaky.

Stay in the Mac-world for some time (which will be great) and you will see: We are.

Wait wait wait: There's a Mac Classic (or similar) machine under the desk. Seems I wrote complete BS and you're longer a Mac user that I am. Ah, I'm confused now�

I was gonna put my main comp. in a diff room but then I'd be too far away from the big screen TV.

Well here are my pictures. I have my mini in the wiring closet. Forgive the picture quality.

Crappy setup, the monitor licks balls but I'm saving up for a apple 20in.... The mac itself runs great and I cant wait to get my external HD in so I can tranfer all my mp3s and pictures and finally get rid of my pc

Dont mind the crappy furniture we are living in a temporary location and dont have our actual desks

When I get married, for her to have a mac will be a stipulation. I'm tired of mixed environments... no, never mind, she will just have to get a mac and keep her pc, I wont player hate her stuff, though it sucks.

Today I bought that cheap no-name 17" TFT for 199 �. The image is stunning, really. I didn't expect much, I stand corrected now.

Nice. I can't wait to see how a BT setup will look like. I'm really thinking bout getting one of these but can't justify getting this over an external drive that'll get my Xbench scores around the same as the mini. Decisions decisions.

It's a regular beech worksurface used in kitchens. A few cable holes were cut into it using a circular saw and it was then nailed to the wall. Three metal legs provide the support.

Cheap, strong and sturdy and available from a big DIY store.

It's a 20".

When I got my Mac mini home I planned to plug it into the 22" ADC Cinema Display via a Gefen ADC to DVI converter.

Unfortunately the screen came up with a huge amount of static and noise, something I hadn't experience when I'd used the screen with a RADEON 9000 in my Dell.

Rather than try and find a newer Apple converter and take the chance that it might make things better, I gave up and went back to the Apple Store for a new display.

Turns out the mini was the most expensive low-end computer I've ever bought

I ordered the mini on 1/11 and got it on 2/11.

I'm very happy with the system. I switched from a Shuttle XPC (Athlon 1800+, 768MB RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD-R, WLAN), which I sold and have a PC-free home now. The mini is whisper-quiet, elegant, and fast enough for my purposes (Web, iWork, iMovie).

I set the TV to its native 1280x768 resolution with DisplayConfigX, and it's very sharp at that size and fine at other resolutions, too.

The gear (starting clockwise):
- EyeTV 200
- Philips 17" LCD TV
- Keyspan DMR
- Mac mini
- Maxtor 40, LaCie 120 and Maxtor 300GB drives
- DirecTV receiver
- Plextor 716-UF DL DVD burner

Work pretty well (remote is key). What would make the setup perfect is if the EyeTV could tune with the directv card so it didn't take two steps to schedule a recording.

I also have a LaCie external HDD, 160Gb but I find it very noisy. The Western Digital inside is fast but you do hear it spin quite well.

I was thinking of using it with my mini but the noise will kill me in the end. Right now i'm using it as a backup for my 2 internal 160Gb in my Windows PC.

I would not mind swaping that Western for a Seagate, complete silence with them and mabe even faster. Would void my warenty....

I actually have the 120GB LaCie and I don't find any of external drives to be particularly noisy. My music's on the LaCie.

The mini's used for PVR recording and DVD playback and it's very quiet.
