Apple needs our help in naming the future release of 10.5. So far they've used Jaguar and Panther. The next is Tiger. After that they are having a hard time keeping with the cat naming convention. Any suggestions here will undoubtedly assist the marketing dept at Apple for their future software releases.

Post your suggestions now!

There are a few cats left that can still be used in the future, these would get them well past 10.9

Bobcat
Cougar
Leopard
Lion
Lynx
Ocelot
Serval
Wildcat

My favorites would be :-

10.5 - Cougar
10.6 - Leopard
10.7 - Lynx
10.8 - Lion
10.9 - Wildcat

Ever since 10.0 was released, there has been speculation that the following release would be code-named "Lion". So far, this speculation has yet to pan out.

According to Parky, that's because they haven't gotten to 10.8 yet.

Lion thats the only escalation (i hope thats the right word) after Tiger. and after Lion there is nothing else because Lion is the king of the animals. so there will be no 10.6 and apple will have to name their systems after other animals. maybe snakes so they can bite the longhorn

Cougar. It was a fast car, Detroit chose that name knowing the associations of speed and power it has.
Re Lion, I hope that by 10.6, when X is the best possible OS, as opposed to the best by far available one, the name Lion will convey our victory over you-know-who.

How about naming the "final" OS X 'Hyena' as the transition from cats to dog-like animals (as they are thought to form an evolutionary "link" between dogs and cats, being more closely related to cat).
Thereby, hyenas possess the strongest jaw muscles among terrestrial mammals, crushing any Longhorn showing its face
if there were no Mac
it would be necessary to invent one

I wouldn't buy an OS called hyena.

And what would be the cool dog-like names? Wolf, and... that's about it. No, If Apple wants to go one with the animal theme, I think birds of prey is their best choice. Snakes might work, but it's not clear what else might.

I think we're all forgetting that the cat names have had one consistent pattern: they all get slower, even as OS X gets faster. Cheeta, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger. So eventually we'll end up at Mac OS X Garfield, but somewhere in between we might have some other not-so-fast cats.

From hyena to dhole, fox, coyote, wolf, dingo, zorro, jackal and domestic dog, not too strong though, I must admit.

Hummm, Apple choosed predators names for its products while M$ a prey. 10.5 should be named 'hunter'...
