Had my iPod on shuffle in the car, and 'The Ghost of Tom Joad' by RATM comes on, and friggon WOW.... never blared my car stereo with the windows down before.

Never heard much about this band, and always seemed like a fringe indie band... but now i definitely want to hear more.

Any suggestions on where to start and what their best songs are ?

Cheers

I'm fairly certain you can hear most of their albums for free at Urban Outfitter.

Weird, I remember they were all "the rage" back in the mid 90's and I had a couple CD's I liked. Didn't know they were still being discovered now.

They still alive?

wow, you just now discovered ratm? I'd say there are definitely one of the top 5 bands of the 90s.

Their first album is a classic

some songs to check out...

Bombtrack
Killing in the Name of
Bullet in Your Head
Bulls on Parade
Sleep Now in the Fire
Testify

Surely you know Tom Morello their guitarist, he was in one of the Guitar Hero games, he has a show on Sirius.

btw Zac De LaRoca (sp?) their lead singer has a new band One Day as a Lion, and Tom Morello is of course part of Audioslave. You do know Audioslave right?

Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

I can see why some liked the band, but its politics are just a bit too Communist-loving for me. Just a tad.

I'm not saying audioslave is a great band, but hell a few yrs back you couldn't turn on modern rock radio without hearing from them.

I knew of them, but never really heard much of them. Heck 16 years ago i thought Beethoven was a large St.bernard . I'm glad i discovered them, better late than never. I'll start off with their self-titled album and see how it goes.

Yeah i know Audioslave, heard a bunch of their stuff. Im not familiar with RATM's Morello tho, nor their lead.

Thanks for the recommendations guys

I get this from my 4th graders when I play Beethoven. But I'm buoyed by my ten-year old's discovery of the Beatles and singing along with David Bowie in the car. I'm looking forward to her introducing me to music I don't know. That is of course, as long as it's not crap.

I knew there was a reason I haven't turned on modern rock radio in twenty years.

RatM is really annoying to me - always hated them.

All the anger, no catharsis. Like they just weren't good enough to actually DO something with that energy. The only sensible reaction I could see to the music was going out and smashing something.

Then again, I was heavily into Blues and Floyd at the time.
