Was setting up my MacPro 3ghz today, had several tasks running in the background
- Downloading updates (Apple, Adobe PDF ver 7.08 and Nikon NX)
- Running softwares installation from both DVD drives
- Backing data from old HD to new 2nd HD (120GB worth of files)

The fans sounded quite loud and was on for at least a minute, not as loud as my old dual 2ghz G5, but loud enough to be heard. Is this normal? Hearing about owners commenting on the silence performances and all, so thought this doesn't sound right.

The fans in the Mac Pro will speed up and get "louder" if you do something that is CPU, GPU or HD intensive (just like the fans in the PowerMac G5). They're made that way. To keep quiet most of the time when your not using the full power of the machine and to spin up, when you are. If the fans run full speed all the time, then you have a problem.
