Hey, all. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I searched and nothing quite answered it.
I would like to use iChat instead of the actual AIM client, but how do I get rid of AIM? I mean, I use AOL as my ISP, so AIM is built-in...I didn't DL it separately. I've tried to set prefs from within AOL so AIM does not open, but any time I've received IM's, AIM fires up and I don't get any messages from within iChat's window.
Confused? Me too.
I sent a message to a buddy in iChat, then when he replied, an AIM window popped up and no message showed up in iChat.
Any insight would be much appreciated!

If you get rid of AOL, I believe that will get rid of AIM. That's the first step to a full recovery ....

wait a second. are you getting an AOL IM or an AIM IM? does AIM start up when you receive messages or is it just an instant message within AOL?

This might be a slight pain but what you could probably do is sign up for a new AIM account apart from an AOL account. You'll have to tell all your buddies that you're switching names. But if AOL doesn't know you have an account by that name (only iChat) I would think that'd keep AOL's AIM from booting up.

I apologize, it's an AOL IM. I've been doing fifty things at once today, and I didn't pay attention to what I wrote!
It is from within AOL. The preferences for not showing my buddy list at signon don't seem to stick when I restart AOL either.

Just create a new screenname in AOL and log in that screenname then fire up iChat and log in your original screenname

That's what I'm doing
