Ok, so i had 10.1.5 installed on an iMac G4 700 w/ 512ram. Tried installing Panther, and it keeps spitting out the disc saying that it can't read it!!! Updated to Jaguar first...and it took the panther cd the first time i tried. Restarted, and right in the middle of startup, it spits the disc out again, and won't recognize it!!! I'm updating it to 10.2.8, but what else am i supposed to do?! This system is supposed to be fully supported!
Specs:12" PowerBook-1.33GHz, 768 PC2700, Airport Express, Panther (10.3.9), iSight, 15GB 3G iPod

You have the same machine as me, it works fine on mine.

Perhaps your CD is screwed.

Try to burn a copy of it on a different machine.

Bye they way, are you sure you are putting the first CD in and restarting with the "c" key down, like it says in the instructions.

The only time I ever had a computer not recognize an OS disc was when the disc was a CD-R copy and it was burned at high speed (above 8X). If you are using a CD-R, get a real copy. If you can't get a real copy, make sure the CD-R copy is not burned at more than 4X.

Jaguar was on a CD-R, and that worked fine. Panther is the real version bought straight from Apple. And THAT's the one that doens't work!!!

Sounds like Apple sold you a defective CD. Contact them and have them replace it at no additional charge to you.

Ahhh, but this is the third mac in my house that i'm using this install CD on. It worked on my 800MHz iMac, it worked on my 266MHz iMac, but it won't do anything to my 700MHz iMac!!!

It's possible there's some dirt/grime on the lens in your iMac. Or, the disk has a subtle defect and your iMac is more sensitive to it than the other machines.

If this is a legit copy, call Apple and have them replace it. However, unless you have the Family Pack, don't tell them you've installed from the same disk on two other machines... it's (obviously) against the license.

Does the disk still work on the other machines?
