Hi all,

Quick question. I have a 12" PB 1.5GHz G4 with the stock 512MB RAM. Playing WoW on it, at 1024x768, FPS seems to range from around 10-25fps (with 10fps when things start to get crowded, and 25-30fps when just walking around with no-one else around). I'm playing with everything set to the lowest quality settings. Things are a bit better at 800x600, but the sort of washed out appearance of playing with that res makes it unlikely I'd play like that.

I'm curious how much of a performance boost I'd see in WoW from a RAM upgrade (i.e. to 768 or 1.25 gigs of RAM)? And how that might compare to switching to a 15" PB 1.5GHz G4 with the Mobility Radeon 9700.

Thanks!

I have 1.5GB on the same system (the radeon 9700 w 128MB RAM, dunno if you have that) and get about the same performance.

No, I have a 12 inch powerbook, so it's a GeForce FX 5200. I thought the Radeon 9700 was only available on the 15 and 17 inch PB's?

Either way, that's sort of disappointing to hear that the performance is about the same on a PowerBook with 1.5 gigs of RAM and a 128MB Mobility 9700 as it is on a PB with 512MB RAM and a GeForce FX 5200. I wouldn't have expected that. I was sure that there'd be smoother performance there.

Are you positive the performance is about the same as that? It just seems to me like a system with 3 times the RAM and a better video card would be significantly better. I wouldn't expect 10-15fps at least in crowded areas........
