I just wanted to provide a screenshot of my battery time. I turned off the sounds card, turned off bluetooth, turned down brightness and set the preferences to "Better Battery Life".

Just not sure how to put a screenshot here.

How do you "turn off the sound card"? The MBP doesn't really have a sound card. Did you just turn off the volume?

The image has to be hosted somewhere else. Then you put the URL of the image between img tags. If you need a free image host, try imageshack.us

The 4:20 are a software estimate according to previously recorded battery discharge behavior. It doesn't necessarily give you an accurate prediction. It's an estimate. Depending on the state of your battery, the calibration, and your usage, deviations between the prediction and the actual battery time can be fairly large. I'm not saying 4:20 is impossible, but it's (as you already indicated) not something you'd get during 'normal' usage. And actually that's quite a shame. The MBP is an awesome notebook, but its battery time isn't stellar.

Haha, I loved the times when I'd wake up my iBook or PowerBook and it'd say 242:08 or something as my remaining battery life.

Well somehow it's kinda sad. On an old G3 iBook 4:20 would have been nothing special at all. On a modern MBP we see 4:20 and immediately assume the prediction's off.

True, I could occasionally push 5:00 out of my iBook G4 but never the 6:00 apple tells us we can get.
On the up side, it's much better than what my Dell can get with it's two aging batteries put together.

Well after testing it out I did indeed get the 4.20 hours out of my battery. I know the indicator is only an estimate so I'll be conservative and say I got 4 hours. I used my MBP from around 6pm to just after 10pm.

The really weird thing is that changing the screen brightness doesn't seem to have as much of an effect as having WiFi on or off. Max battery life drops from 5 hours to 3.5 hours (new battery, recently calibrated). What's up with that?

Oh well, still better than the 1 hour I got fromt he dv9000t I returned with Vista. Bleck.

I can't even get over 1:30 on my PB G4 (last update before the MBP came out). You guys need to shut your mouths. God I'm ready to upgrade.

my 12" pb got 4-5 hours (reduced brightness, wifi & bt off);
of course i returned the battery in the Big Recall; my new battery doesn't do nearly as well (best about 4 hours).

guess this is better than the battery exploding (well, maybe...)

I get about 4h - 4.5h on my PB w/ BT disabled and normal IMing and web surfing.

I was just pointing out that the reading isn't a very realistic one. For example, it says i have over four hours on my 7 year old pismo battery, and it never even got to three hours on my PowerBook G4.

I get 2.5-3 hours on the MBP with casual usage. If I'm using FCP it's more like 1.5.
