Hey guys.. I dunno if I'm in the correct part of the Forum to post this.

I overwrote a file with a version I don't want. Is there any way for me getting the old version of the file back??

Thanks in advanced!

Did you back up the old file first?

If not, your only option is to try DriveSavers. It'll cost you a few thousand bucks, though.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

If you're running Leopard with Time Machine enabled you're in luck. Just open it up, scroll back to a timeframe before you made the changes you don't want, navigate to the file and restore it.

If not...... what CharlesS said - never used DriveSavers, though.

Nope, no Leopard here... Isn't there a low-cost solution?

If you actually overwrote it, all the low-cost solutions are screwed.

It's a Photoshop Document... I accidentally merged all the layers and saved it.. I would want to have my 50+ layers back.... I just noticed this today, I think the merging ocurred a couple of days back.

No chance that you can recover the file if you overwrote it, not without a backup.

So now that you dodged that bullet... perhaps time to think about some sort of backup plan?

I've always wanted to have a file server, but money is currently an issue. Also, my MacBook doesn't have a DVD drive, so writing my files on a DVD is complicated. I could burn the 5gb that my school folder has into spanned CDs... would it be worth it?

Dude.

Walk into the nearest electronics store, and buy the cheapest ****ing USB hard drive they have.

And if you don't have 10.5 wth its Time Machine backup system, download the free SilverKeeper backup software from LaCie .

Sheesh.

I really have no money to get an external hard drive, otherwise I would have gotten one by now, don't you think?

I dunno why you got so upset with me :S

Backups make little sense unless they're regularly done.

And $70 will get you an external USB hard drive.

I'm only 16 and live in a third-world country. $70 dollars is what you pay in the US; all the stores here have electronics overpriced. I'll see how I manage to get an external USB drive.

Thanks for your concern though.

Thank you, I just created an account. What happens if I get disconnected and the backup is running? Here the electricity is unstable and leaves every once in a while. Every time there's a change from the city's electricity to my house's backup power source, I get disconnected.
