Well, as much as i love Apple, and OS X, these programs need to be released!!! For instance, when i go to www.candystand.com and try to play some billiards in IE for OS X, it tells me that i need the plug-in for shockwave. But when i try to download it, NOTHING WORKS!!! I also haven't found an OS X version of Real Player or Windows Media Player!!! These are apps i need to be able to watch all of the goofy crap on the internet today. Now, if everything were in Quicktime, i'd be all set, BUT IT'S NOT!!! Any suggestions?

Until OSX versions of that software you mentioned comes out for OSX you are going to have to use classic or reboot into OS9.

I have a beta copy of WMP-X (or wimpex) and I must say its not too horrible... Not sure why it hasn't been released yet.

Yes, WMP for OS X has been around in beta form for several weeks now. It actually functions better than the pre-X version.
But of course it's no match for QuickTime.

I've seen that beta of the player and it is indeed something to look forward too. The beta only included the player though... no browser plugin. That might be why it's taking this long to be released.
Also, while I aggree that Quicktime is a superior media format for downloadable clips (like movie trailers), Windows Media is superior when it comes to video streaming, especially over low bit-rates.

Another thing with wimpex beta is that it only plays streaming video from the web. You can fool it to opening a file on your hard disk by choosing "Open URL" and searching for it that way, but you cannot click on an .asf or .wmv and have it play in wimpex. Kinda sucks, but it's really only an inconvenience. M$ will probably unlock this in the next beta (if there is another beta before it's released...it looks pretty damn close to final).
[Edit]Oh yeah, Real Player sucks and I will never install it, even if it is released.[/EDIT]

I think the QuickTime team should have a look at those screengrabs.
And let's pray Microsoft's marketing crew doesn't ruin WMP's interface before its release.

Actually it does work when opeing .asf files. I have a couple of Simpsons episodes and if i double click them it opens in WimpX. I'm not sure why it wont work for you.

I'm just glad WiMP is at least available soon. I believe the MacBU is doing the port (or whatever) which is something I don't think they were responsible for before this release.
I could care less about RealPlayer. On one hand, how much could it screw up in OS X? On the other hand, they do have a knack for royally screwing with my machine in OS 9.

I can't get my copy to install...It asks for my password and then quits with no error or anything.
Help?

Don't bet on it. Media player on Windows was great until version 7, now it's one of the most disgusting interfaces I've seen. Fortunately they still install 6.4 with it for those that have some taste.
Maybe Apple should install the Quicktime 3 player for those of us who think badly resizing brushed metal is dumb.

Calm down. There is a Windows Media Player released for OS X. Get it at http://www.versiontracker.com/morein...=13112&db=mac.
It even installs an webbrowser plug-in so you can watch for instance news.com video right there in your browser. This has been possible since early november!
