An informative account of how the Bush administration chose to put pals and party loyalists in charge of Iraq reconstruction rather than selecting the best men and women for the job. Despicable...

Ties to GOP Trumped Know-How Among Staff Sent to Rebuild Iraq - washingtonpost.com

O'Beirne's staff posed blunt questions to some candidates about domestic politics: Did you vote for George W. Bush in 2000? Do you support the way the president is fighting the war on terror? Two people who sought jobs with the U.S. occupation authority said they were even asked their views on Roe v. Wade .

Many of those chosen by O'Beirne's office to work for the Coalition Provisional Authority, which ran Iraq's government from April 2003 to June 2004, lacked vital skills and experience. A 24-year-old who had never worked in finance -- but had applied for a White House job -- was sent to reopen Baghdad's stock exchange. The daughter of a prominent neoconservative commentator and a recent graduate from an evangelical university for home-schooled children were tapped to manage Iraq's $13 billion budget, even though they didn't have a background in accounting.

All they were doing was picking the best people for the job, after all! Liberals can't do anything right, they don't deserve to be picked for such an important job. Experience is overrated -- Anyone can learn to do something on the job, but if your staff doesn't believe in the right things, how can they possibly be effective?

And someone's view on Roe V. Wade is especially important for rebuilding Iraq. Now that they have Democracyâ„¢, the biggest issues they face are things like whether to prevent their neighbors from having abortions.

We already knew that you hated America, "Moderator" (if that is your real name.... ) But now we know that you hate Iraq enough to have gay atheist liberals running it.

For instance, we know that Jim O'Beirne was the right person to pick these people because he's married to conservative commentator Kate O'Beirne. If he ever gets out of line, his wife will set him straight!

Isn't this a rule 8 violation?

Anyway, I don't see why our hiring policies for the Iraqi reconstruction effort should be any different from our hiring policies here at home. This screening has been publicized previously several times (for medical and scientific positions, that I recall). Bush has the right to hire whoever he wants, and being "best for the job" is not nearly as important as being a loyal party member.
