Well, it seems John Kerry is sticking his foot in his mouth yet again. In a way reminiscent of his criticism of the US military post-Vietnam, Kerry ushers forth another blunder.
"get your education or be stuck in Iraq".
Someone please tell me what he meant because the University audience he was speaking to fell dismally silent. If it was a joke, apparently none of them got it either.

Methinks he's trying to imply there will be a military draft instituted and that anyone who isn't matriculating will be subject to induction.
It could be a bit of election season scaremongering on HIS part or it could be he is giving the students a 'heads-up' on something that should be confidential or maybe even just scuttlebutt.
It will probably escape the attention of the MSM, but kudos to you, ebuddy, for picking up on the fact that it was noteworthy! Oftentimes we know something is amiss but only later do we realize exactly why or what.

Quite possible. Prominent Democrats have been scaremongering about an allegedly inevitable draft for years now, and yet not only has a draft failed to materialized, but the Bush Administration has been quite adamant about not instituting one. It's one of the few things I'm still willing to give Bush credit for.
It's funny: The DNC is quick to accuse Republicans of fear-based politics, and to some extent they're even right about that, but then they deftly avoid the question of their own scaremongering.

I saw this but interpreted it as a bad joke about Bush.
Wouldn't surprise me if that was the message, Bush bashing seems to be all the Angelides campaign is capable of.

Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? Behind the podium of a University Hall botching jokes (if that is in fact what he's doing. After all, this wouldn't be the first time he's thrown around a blanket indictment about the military) before a stunned and silent audience of people who want so badly to support you.

OK, now it's funny. Bush is in Somewhere, Somewhere giving a speech and dry-humping this strawman for all it's worth. That's all that's going to be heard as the election comes up, not Kerry's press conference clarifying what he meant.
Honestly, it's funny. I give up. Long live Rove. Praise the Lord and pass the horseshît, black is white, up is down, pass the kool-aid, I'm down homey, I'm down!

The military can be an extremely positive experience for a person. It's not "the bottom of the barrel". You want to see that, look at the 40 year old working for McDonalds.

The same reason why some defended Mark Foley, Michael Brown, etc... The word "partisan" is in the solution to this problem

Hm. Or maybe some people are tired of bs. I think it's pretty obvious what Kerry meant to say. That said, if he can't even articulate his crappy joke accurately, he really shouldn't be out there representing his party in front of the public.

What a coincidence, I am voting a straight Dem ticket this year because CNN did a poll finding that Rush Limbaugh only has a 26% favorability rating.

When the ref makes a call in your favor you don't question their decision. Kerry's supposed to be smarter and better spoken than Bush but Bush has been sincere and honorable and has taken his lumps and risen above the BS to boldly lead this country and not give in to the "useful idiots."
Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, the term "useful idiot" has also been used by some commentators to describe individuals said to take a softer line against Islamism and terrorism. For example, Anthony Browne wrote in the United Kingdom newspaper, The Times:
"Elements within the British establishment were notoriously sympathetic to Hitler. Today the Islamists enjoy similar support. In the 1930s it was Edward VIII, aristocrats and the Daily Mail; this time it is left-wing activists, The Guardian and sections of the BBC. They may not want a global theocracy, but they are like the West’s apologists for the Soviet Union — useful idiots."

If you call helping to give the people there a chance for freedom such as you enjoy dumb, I think you are pretty twisted.
Anyone who calls themselves a caring, sensitive person who loves humanity and values America and freedom would support our being there to help prevent the EVIL ones from taking that away from the noble freedom fighters.
Anyone who calls themselves intelligent will recognize that the same forces that are willing to kill and wreak havoc and chaos in Iraq will not stop once they defeat the freedom fighters.
Anyone who wouldn't help others achieve the freedom we have is small and selfish.
Anyone who wouldn't fight to keep the wolves from their own door is suicidally dumb.

Yeah, that's why I said Kerry couldn't be talking against Ivy League graduates since he, himself is one. At least that's what I meant. I'm trying to figure out how Kerry could've been talking about Bush with the joke.
Couldn't be Ivy League education, they both have one.
According to Kerry it's not about the military, but...
I don't see how it could be about anything else.
