I had one of those experiences today that confirms the appeal of Macintoshes. My son had been at a friend's all day, with his iBook, and I picked him up so we could get to his in-line hockey game on time. We got there about an hour early, though, so while I waited I took out the iBook and started playing Bugdom. Within five minutes I had something like a dozen kids wanting to play instead of skate. They litereally lined up to get a chance. A couple of parents asked what kind of computer I had and I took the opportunity to sell them on the Mac

Anyway, the kids were so determined to play, that I actually missed the first half of my son's game cause I was tending the iBook. The final score was 9 zip for my kid's team

i've seen 2 Ti books in public, one at a starbucks (of course), and one at a little coffeebar today.

no one paid the least bit of attention...

(of course, neither user was playing "bugdom"...!)

and this is new york....

You know what, strange as it may seem, I haven't seen a Powerbook in public is over a decade. The last time I did was when I was a little kid taking the streetcar to school, this executive looking type lady was on the bus with one of the early Powerbooks and I was marvelling at it thinking to myself wow, I'll never have one of those. Little did I know... and here I am panning my Pismo 400 which is oh... about a trillion times more powerful because it's not made of Titanium

That sounds cool. Whern ever I have people round, they all gawp at my iMac. Apple always manages to attract attention. And furthur more, whenever I go into John Lewis (a deprtmrent stor that sells Macs), the Ti and FP/BD iMacs always take all of the attention. PeeCees don't even get a look in.

Justice is sweet.

Play it cool

A Mac getting attention is nice, but a Mac getting sold would be even better.

Unfortunately, somewhere in between the two events, the Mac loses out. Otherwise, we'd see many more of them.

Kids in the US don't do a whole lot of playing outdoors with their friends without adult supervision and/or organization. It's organized baseball, soccer, hockey, football, basketball, tennis--you name it, it becomes an "official" sport. In this case, it was an indoor rink, to begin with, and the kids simply found the game more interesting than the skating. I don't understand it myself since I also find Bugdom annoying--but then, I'm not seven years of age, as these kids were. In any case, when it comes to entertainment, which applies to skating as to playing Bugdom, my sense is that kids should do whatever they please.
