does anyone know of an app that will allow me to swap my desktop (folder) with any other folder via a key combo or a method similar to those utilized by virtual window managers like VirtualDesktops?

so i would essentially hit a key and what's on my desktop would change to whatever is in the folder I had linked.

i'm not interested in window managers, but a desktop manager would be fantastic.

especially if some creative individual could think of a way to drill down through the folders as well.

just a thought ... could be counter productive, but worth investigating.

I know there was one out there for awhile, but it was incorporated into Quicksilver.

Might I ask why you'd want something like this?

Do you mean Deviant.menu? It's still available, apparently.

I also think something like Deskfinity from CodeTek might have fit your bill. Used it very briefly, years ago.

DESCRIPTION
Deskfinity is designed to allow you to have more than one set of desktop icons available. If your desktop is cluttered with icons for various tasks, Deskfinity will allow you to create an infinite number of desktop icon sets for as many different sets of icons as you would like.
Unfortunately, the product is dead.

The Desktop is the obvious, in-your-face place for files currently being worked on.

The idea of switching that context appeals to me, this sounds like a nice idea.

I'll give Deviant a try.

Deviant is the one I was thinking of, but I thought the developer stopped development on it. I'll give deskfinity a shot though I was looking for a freeware or open-source app.

Thanks for the help.

Maybe another developer will see some potential with such an app and jump in with something for the open-source community.

Spaces are virtual desktops, I don't know whether each one gets it's own desktop folder though.

No, they don't. The Desktop is the same in each Space.

Deviant Menu is a bit buggy and missing some features. It could use some of VirtueDesktops activation and transition functions.

Which Virtual Desktops?

CodeTek VirtualDesktop Pro?
VirtueDesktops?
You Control: Desktops?
Desktop Manager?

I'm using Deviant.menu along with Desktop Manager, no issues so far.
