Yep. Was just about to post this, as well.
Annoying, intrusive, and, amusingly, illegible (at least in the case of the Office 365 banner I got earlier).
Though legibility improves as you zoom in on the site: It looks like it's a banner that gets rendered at the resolution of whatever the webpage is scaled to, so as you zoom the webpage, the resolution of the banner increases as well.
Make it ****ing stop.

Also, with me at least, it you try to close it, it backs you out of the page you're on and dumps you in the main forum page.

Ah yes, that's the worst of it. I'd forgotten because I'd immediately trained myself not to close it the first time I got one (about two weeks ago). This has been the second time, today.

Sorry guys, got sidetracked with a different trouble report which I'd thought was related to this. Turns out it wasn't.
As usual, need a URL or some page code. I've turned off my own blocks for awhile, but there's no guarantee I'll stumble across it. It could be an ad that triggers on smartphones, or only on Intel Macs.

It's sneaky. For the ad I posted the pic of, you can't get a link. No matter what you do, it takes you straight to the App Store.

I don't own a smartphone, and it hasn't shown up yet in Firefox. Perhaps a dev utility for iOS Safari? This would be so much easier if Apple allowed plugins on the iOS side.

What exactly is the banner ad company's excuse here?
"I've got a BS popup happening from X"
"Oh, sorry. We have no way of associating our clients by name with the poop we're shoveling you. Funny how that works, innit?"

Are any of you guys who see these, getting ISP service from CMA Communications?
Ars article on ads being injected into pages of ISP subscribers.
I've been told in the past our ad agreements forbid popups, and the timing is compatible. So maybe it's a mistake (the most common cause in the past) or maybe it's something more interesting.

I'm with Comcast, which has been accused of injections, but not for ads.

You can use the OS X Safari dev tools with the iOS simulator, FWIW...

FWIW, there was a database outage yesterday (day before?), and since then, these ****ing pop-ups have returned to the iPhone, AND Safari on OS X (Mountain Lion, latest everything) is crashing like crazy for me while browsing MacNN (mostly while reloading the "daily" forum search that I use as a landing point).
I'm gonna go ahead and construe some sort of relationship between these incidents.
I use Ghostery, but no other extension that should conceivably affect MacNN forum performance on this machine.
I do use Detox and JavaScript blacklist, but if those affect this forum, you've got problems.

I haven't heard what caused the DB outage. On the theory a hack attempted to inject code into our templates, I looked over the header and footer.
Didn't find anything, but the footer contained some typos. I've fixed those.
Edit: not fixed, introduced new problems with menu dropdowns. And reverting didn't fix it. I'll have to dig into this tonight.
Edit2: footer restored via DB edit. Some character escape stuff tripped things up, preventing a revert via the usual controls.

Are they back in specific countries or browsers? I couldn't reproduce this at all on iOS 7/iPhone (Safari or Chrome)..
anybody have any other details of where or how to produce these? The ad codes or info has not changed in years, so this must be some sort of mistake at this point.

Only on iPhone, not iPad, and they've been on every single page again here in Germany since yesterday. Same ****ing office 365 ad.
I just tried "x"ing it away now, and while it took me to the main forums page, it appears to be gone for now.

I get them on the iPad too.
I hammered on desktop Safari with iPhone selected in the develop menu, but couldn't get one to pop up.

I get this pop up banner too, definitely on iPad, maybe iPhone but can't remember. The one I get is always for a Mazda 6. As above, pressing the X on the banner goes back to the main forum page.

Ha!
I've got this little space herpy caught in a desktop browser window. It thinks I'm on an iPhone.
What do you need? Page source? It's very long.

Save the whole page source if need be. Whatever it takes. PM me, and I'll give you an email address.
Take a screen shot too. After saving the source, maybe try to save as a full archive. Though that often reloads all the resources, which is likely to omit the elusive ad.

Got them. Better leave them up, in case other staff need to look them over.
The ad wasn't captured in the HTML, but it was in the archive. It was a good idea to capture both ways.
It's Appsnack via tribalfusion, injected at the very end of the page. I've sent the code and analysis upstairs.

I shall leave them up as long as you need.
FWIW, I still have the actual window with the ad open should some form of long distance forensics be required.

And Safari, while not showing any pop-ups on the OS X machine, is crashing like crazy again today while surfing this forum.

On the iPad, clicking the ad just goes to whichever site it is for. Mine is currently Gamestop. I'm not sure how to get the link data.

It's not happening at the forum level. They could be coming from our adserver (though that should have caught it by now), or injection at the ISP level (either end). I've been waiting for comment from higher ups too.

I've gotten a couple more WalMart pop ups today, They're at the bottom of the page, and they tend to catch gestures for scrolling on an iPad. Very nasty.
