I was just checking the order status of my Mac mini, when I learned that the store is down. I thought they usually updated Tuesdays, but who knows.

I noticed exactly the same thing: the order status tracking has been down for hours, but now suddenly it's redirecting to the main Apple Store.

With a "scrolling touchpad": drag two fingers across the touchpad, and it scrolls. That's kinda nicer than uControl-style, IMHO.

I appreciate the 512 MB RAM and the 5400 rpm drive. And AE standard, too. It's no G5, but nice.

The 512MB RAM is a joke. Only 256mb soldered, with the single addt'l ram slot filled with another 256. This of course means if you get the standard 512 config and want to add additional memory yourself, you've gotta trash/sell the extra 256 chip.

Cheap move, Apple.

People complain when there is 256 standard... and they complain when they add a 256 chip.

uhh, standard is 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM. So, standard, one slot is open and you trash nothing. And now you can finally upgrade to 1GB relatively cheaply.

Why, oh why, have they not increased the screen resolution? PC laptops have hit 1600x1200 and above! I've been waiting years.

When they put laptop screen resolution to 1600x1200, they'll supply a magnifying glass in the box to read the text on the screen with.

Anyone else notice they're $200 cheaper?!!!

AND, the 5400 RPM HDD is default. The upgade is to a 100GB HDD. But the upgrade on the video card is now $100, so you don't really save on it (compared to the $50 HDD upgrade and the $50 video upgrade they used to have.)

They also have 8x +/- DVD SuperDrives. I'm guessing iMovie and iDVD fully support Plus media now.

Text ... that's what that is on my old man's 15" Dell laptop. I kept thinking it was fly turds and tried to clean 'em off - with little success, though.

The speed of the proc isn't exactly grand, but I do happen to think the other features are quite nifty. I'm progressively wishing more and more that someone would steal my insured 12 inch PowerBook

I'm only joking though, I love the thing and she's been very good to me.
