I recently upgraded to Tiger from Panther and I have noticed that printing is now really slow. Printing text or line doagrams or bit maps (photos) - all mush slower than it used to be. Printer pauses a lot more than it did before.
Same printer (old Epson Stylus Color 740 - works fine for what I need), same Mac, same usb cable etc etc.

Anyone else had this and any ideas what I should check.

TIA

What drivers does the printer use?
Have you installed the latest ones or do you use whatever came with Tiger?

I am using the built in drivers,

Epson do not appear to have any drivers for after OS9 as this is quite na old printer - it used to printquickly enough in Panther....

Thanks

You could try removing the printer from Printer Setup Utility and re-add it. Sometimes that helps with issues.

Thanks for that - I gave it a try and then was getting no printing. While I was trying to work out what was wrong, I got a kernel panic (which I have been getting more frequently than I am am used to) and it made me wonder if my USB hub has gone bad as the crash log talks about USB 'things'. Plugging the printer direct into the machine it prints fine, so I think I have a duff USB hub causing the slow down.

Cheers

Yes, that sounds like a solution, especially if printing is fine if you connect your printer directly to your Mac.
