A day after New York City's Stonewall Inn received official landmark status, Apple debuted a curated collection of apps and media in its iOS App Store celebrating the advances the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community has made in recent years, as well as commemorating the 1969 riots at Stonewall that kicked off the modern pride movement. The company has a long history of publicly recognizing gay employees, stretching back to 1986.

Music, books, podcasts, movies, and a selection of apps make up the collection, including many mainstream media hits such as Orange is the New Black, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Adam Lambert's latest album The Original High, the groundbreaking book And the Band Played On, Dan Savage's "Savage Love" podcast, and the Human Rights Campaign's news app.

Although the collection of themed apps is hardly unusual -- the App Store routinely recognizes ethnic, cultural, or historically significant events and holidays with curated offerings -- the company has a long history of supporting equality and human rights causes, including LGBT equality. It first authorized a gay employee social group in 1986, and in 1993 joined with Microsoft in granting equal benefits to same-sex partners as was given to married employees. In 2012 both companies first called for marriage equality, and last year participated in San Francisco's Pride Parade with some 5,000 employees.

Since becoming CEO and coming out as gay himself, Tim Cook has given a number of speeches on the overall themes of social justice, human rights and equal rights for minorities. Apple has, however, spoken out against LGBT discrimination and donated to pro-equality causes long before Cook took over from Steve Jobs, and even from before Cook was COO for the company. Many of Apple's top executives have become more publicly philanthropic for causes they care about, with Phil Schiller kicking off a company-wide effort to fight ALS, for example.

In related news, because heterosexuals find the LGBT flag offensive, Apple is removing all Apps that picture that flag.

Call us when powerful elite gangs of homosexuals round up and execute mass numbers of straight people. Oh wait, that only happened the other way around.
