We've had us a few hundred beer threads over the years (and I've loved every damned one). Let's talk about liquor for a minute. Favorite drink? Favorite shot?
If I'm looking to drink something that's not beer, it's usually going to be gin and tonic. Well liquors are the devil (and give me guaranteed hangovers). Tanquerray is OK, but Bombay Sapphire is my jam. When the bartender is pouring it right, it should be giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin, (splash of) tonic, lime.
I like a shot of Jameson or Jaeger too.

Jack and Coke
Everclear and Fruit Punch
Only two liquors I drink. One I can get at any bar, one I make at home.
(I will take down Tequila from time to time in mass quantities, specially in Margaritas. However, Jack and Coke is always 1st on the list).

When it's not beer, I usually go for a good vodka and soda (soda water, not cola or something), and a twist of lime. It's light, and a joy to imbibe casually. For those occasional times where I've consumed more than I should, it respects me in the morning comparitively better than other liquors. Tequila, as an example, does not. A relatively small amount of tequila will usually leave me with a headache the next day.

Bombay Sapphire, while alright, still leaves you feeling like doo-doo in the morning. Have yet to find a gin that leaves you feeling as fresh and clean as the nicer vodkas. Belvedere, chopin, the goose, stoli can do a man little wrong.

Back in the days when I drank these would be my favourites.
Rum (Bacardi) in 7up with just a little lime juice.
Tequila.
Vodka (Absolut or Finlandia) in Magic.

I used to be all about having a well stocked bar, but now I'm trying to get rid of it. I realized I'm a rum guy. Sometime Bacardi O and cranberry juice or OJ, but lately it's been Sailor Jerry's or Mt. Gay Rum <--- THE BEST OMG IT RULES!!!! If you like rum try this ****!

Try this ****. Seriously. Best rum I've found available in the states.

I try to finish the bottle in a couple of hours. Sometimes I get too sleepy and only manage half.

Seriously, though. I've never had an issue after a few gin & tonics.

One of my regulars as well. I sometimes add some pure cranberry juice instead of lime.
I don't do shots, I do mixed drinks. Current ones are the Sidecar and the Mojito.

The only hard liquor I drink is Tequila, no ice. I never mess with that Cuervo garbage, I like Cazadores (it's a little strong tasting) or Don Julio reposado and Don Eduardo añejo.

I drink rum. Have to. It's in the Puerto Rican handbook, rule number 2. Rule number 1 is owning the West Side Story.
When I can get my hands on it, I drink this straight, as all good rums should be drank.

My favorite drink will always be the simple Jack and Coke. I don't like Coke on its own, but it's great when combined with whiskey.

the secret to a hangover free follow up day is goooood vodka:
ciroc (5x) distilled from grapes, has a sweet taste
belvedere & chopin are runners up.
prefer to drink over ice.
sometimes with tonic, i should try with soda
i started trying single malts recently, but i have a lot to learn....
bacardi select rum (really dark label and rum) is really nice. drink chilled in a pint glass.
usually 1 pint is enough.
mixed drinks....where to start....maybe that's why i keep it simple, 1 thing, big glass, over ice.

Car bomb(s) is (are) good to get wasted.
A cognac is always a good way to finish a meal.
Single barrel cruzan rum
But seriously, to get a good buzz, this is what you need.

Try the rum I suggested. I was a huge bacardi fan until I started buying Mt Gay and Sailor Jerry. Bacardi select is pretty good though.

Im drinkin Captain Morgan right now, as I type this. Captain Morgan and Southern Comfort and my favorites (not mixed together of course). Either straight or mixed 50/50 with Coke.
Or when I'm low on cash I get Heaven Hill Vodka. It's cheap as dirt. $12 for a 1.75. It burns like no other, but it'll get you drunk. And it's made right here in KY!
[EDIT] sidenote about liquor made in KY: If you drive the highways in KY you will pass more distilleries than colleges.

Also Mojitos, Brown Tequila shots, Margs, Havannas and Jaeger.

Please, don´t blame tequila. That "cuevo gold" crap that is sold abroad is absolutely terrible. It's so bad that you can barely find it here in Mexico, almost all of it is exported. The good Tequila we drink here in Mexico doesn't give you a hangover. I recommend Don Julio añejo, Herradura Reposado, Cuervo Centenario, Conmemorativo, and the absolute best: Sauza Tres Generaciones.
All this said, I prefer Sapphire and tonic. No hangover whatsoever.

on the "Cuervo Gold" comment. I would add that I would stay away from ANY brand of "gold" (oro) tequila. I don't even use gold for margaritas, but that's just me.

No mention of bourbon? What's the matter with you people? Bourbon, when drinking it straight, whiskey, when mixed with 7Up/sprite, and tequila for Margaritas.
It's amazing all the people bringing up rum - that's some crap right there, and I don't care what kind of rum it is. I'll agree with several other posts in that you have to try a few good tequilas instead of blaming your preference on Cuervo - Cuervo sucks.
If you've got the cash, you could always try a little of this:
