Oh yes! Oh yes! Can you feel that? Oh! Yeah!

Sorry, I got a little excited there. I've been waiting all year for this moment in time.

EDIT: my spelling for the word "moment" was previously "monment"

BTW, that link of yours freezes my computer every time I click on it. Does it happen to anyone else? Note that right now I am using the school's crappy PC in the computer lab.

Didn't bother to log in.

As far as I know, the 8500 is better than the GeForce3 Ti 500. Maybe Apple will start offerinf the 8500 as a BTO option...

If Apple does that, that would be nice. I have a Cube waiting for a graphics accelerator, and I'm certain that Apple's video card kits will fit. It works with the older Radeon and the Geforces.

I think they will use th Geforce 4 when it comes out in Feb, the same time the 8500 ships.

Question is, which is better, 1 year old PC tech or new GeForce 4?

Hmm, I've never heard of the GeForce 4 until now. Are you sure it is coming out so soon?

No were di it mention the ADC, so that again limits my use of the card, being that I have a 17 studio CRT. damn apple and their simple solutions which you can't up grade.

Ya... most sites are now confirming a February ship date is likely... in fact they have rumored to have ceased GeForce 3 production already. Haven't seen anything stating whether or not it will be available in a Mac flavor but i wouldn't be surprised to see one running in..... say.... a new G5 maybe????

I too have a 17" Studio Display CRT (with than damned ADC connection). I DESPERATELY want a Radeon 8500, but it has no ADC, only VGA & DVI. There ARE both ADC-DVI and ADC-VGA adapters available, but they only work with the LCDs, not the 17" CRT (apparently the CRT sends an analog signal vs. the digital signals sent by the LCDs, making compatibility impossible. Yes, they could manufacture an adapter that work ONLY with the 17" CRT ADC Studio Display, but how profitable would that be?!).

This, to be blatant, sucks.

However, if the GeForce4 ships next month WITH an ADC port, perhaps I'll be ok... (really want to try out TRUFORM though).
Be happy.

I'd buy one in a second if it had an ADC connection. Otherwise, no way.

heh heh. Funny how when the ADC was introduced, everyone proclaimed it was the stupidest thing ever made. Now it's a necessity.

Personally... i'm more disappointed not to see the new 8500 All-In-Wonder cards available for the Mac (talk about a digital hub!)

They build a high-end-card like this and offer refresh-rates of only 75Hz @ resolutions higher than 1024x768?!?!?!
Uuhps - I forgot - they offer a stunning refresh-rate of 85Hz at the obviously most common resolutions of 1600x1024 and 1600x1344!
And - surprise: only one DVI-TFT resolution 1600x1200!

Thats just rediculous!!!!

I was at MWSF this afternoon and they told me that the Radeon 8500 was going to ship in Feb. I forgot to ask when the 7000 would ship though. Is it going to ship at the same time?

Prices on the two were $299 and $129 according to a woman at the ATI booth. How much of a difference is there between the two cards in performance? I would be using the 8500 in only a 2x AGP slot (Sawtooth 450). Would the performance drop (due to only a 2x agp as opposed to 4x) make the difference between the two cards that big a deal?

FYI: the card would be used for gaming and video editing.

Does this mean that the original radeon and the geforces will have proper drivers written for mac? Can we finally use the technology the card was suppose to use?

But, wouldn't the drivers only be for the Radeon 8500, not for any previous graphics cards?

SIGNIFICANT

the 8500 uses the r200 core and the 7x series use the rage6 core of the original radeon die shrunk to .15micron (or is it .13?) and small speed bump. it has no truform, hyper-z II or smoothvision.

Well didn't Apple have to do something on their side to allow Ati to write proper drivers? I thought that the reason the original radeon couldn't use all its features because apples software didn't allow it. I could be mistaken though.

i have both the 8500 and the ti200 (oc'd to 235/475 by the way) and i can tell you that the 8500 has a better picture, deeper colors, and much better dvd. and with the lastest drivers it is on par with and in other areas exceeds the ti500's. the ti500 still might produce a few frames more here and there but the 8500 overall seems to be a much better card.

I was just wondering if the OpenGL can use it now. That means that drivers could be written for it later.
