well, after 3 weeks, the deadly whitespot plague seems to be hitting my beautiful 15" AlBook. $!%#@! SO, I need to clone the drive before I send it for repair.

Here's what I have:

The AlBook is running Panther. I have a spare notebook drive (7k60) and a firewire400 case for it (that I bought for this purpose anyways...) I downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner, as I heard it's the best.

CCC was easy enough, but half way through the cloning, the drive glitched and the process stopped. I repeated this a few times until I realized that I was banging my head against the wall...

Is there a problem with CCC, or the hardware? (everything's new!) Is there something special I have to do in CCC? Is this a panther problem? I thought the Panther Firewire problems were for FW800 drives. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Does CCC suck? I'd spend $150 on a great piece of software if I could trust it, and it scheduled to run on it's own.

Thanks for the help!

I've used Carbon Copy Cloner (currently version 2.3) in conjunction with a 7K60 in a FireXpress FW400 enclosure and my stock Toshiba 60 gig with no problems. I ran this configuration with Jag as well as Panther; I've even swapped the drives, using the 7K60 internally and the Toshiba externally.

You might want to look into DiskWarrior. I can't really tell you what it does, and at $90 bucks it isn't cheap, but in the past it has solved a couple of disk related problems I've had.

Good Luck!

I had trouble with CCC b/c of psync, and just when I had to get it working, version 2.3 came out. It works fine now, especially after I re-installed psync package from the bombich.com site.

What error were you getting?

Try the new version (if you haven't yet), and if it dies, let us know why.
