I just picked up for free a Quadra 605, 20 MB RAM, 80 MB HD, with a US Robotics Courier HST modem. Running System 7.5 and FreePPP 2.5v2. Being used to newer systems, I now how to select the modem in the Modem control panel, but is it the same for this machine? I can't seem to find a Modem control panel, but it could have been erased. I put the US Robotics Universal modem script that was installed in OS9 into the Extensions folder of the Quadra. I try to connect, without having selected a modem, and some modem status lights go on, but then FreePPP tells me "The modem does not seem to be responding. PPP was expecting "OK" from your modem."

What should I do?

TIA,

Ed Kaspar

The FreePPP Setup program does have a pop-up menu there so that you can select which serial port your modem is connected to. You don't need the Modem control panel really.

By the way, it is probably better to use FreePPP 2.6.2. Search for it at http://www.versiontracker.com/
