Just read this article on news.com that Apple is going to support the DVD+R and DVD+RW formats in panther. I have read in several places my shiny new G5 has a drive capable of doing the + formats does this mean those formats will become available to me when I upgrade to panther?

It appears to be a "yes," with a few qualifications...

DVD+R/+RW appears to be supported for data-writing only (no video/audio). Although, it's certainly possible that Toast will support writing audio/video to '+' formats.

The iApps (iDVD mainly) have not yet been patched to write to DVD+R/+RW media, and it's yet to be seen if they will. It's my understanding that DVD-R is more compatible with stand-alone DVD players anyway, so I don't think there's going to be a big rush.

I guess we'll all find out for sure when Oct 24 rolls around
