I have a couple of "stupid" questions - but I really don't know the answers, so I am asking you experts....

I plan on buying the dual 2ghz with "the SuperDrive". My first question is - can you explain exactly what it is?

My second question is whether I need a CD burner, or does the SuperDrive perform this function?

Thanks in advance...

the superdrive is apples coined term for a DVD-RW drive.

I have a 1.6GHz G5 with the superdrive. Apple sells the drive as a DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD/CD drive, but my drive also reads and writes DVD+R and DVD+RW.

The drive can read and write to dvd's and CD's. as long as its a supported format. With apple, and CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW can be written to. some drives support the DVD+ formats, but not all

The SuperDrive burns:

1) DVD-R
2) DVD-RW
3) CD-R
4) CD-RW

The SuperDrive reads:

1) DVD-R
2) DVD-RW
3) CD-R
4) CD-RW
5) DVD+R (maybe)
6) DVD+RW (maybe)

The current Apple burners will not read or write DVD-RAM.

Check my sig for additional information about DVD recordable formats.
