At work we have all of our work saved centrally on a server which is running Panther (normal client version, not Server). This works great, but when maybe 8-9 people are logged into this server, the next person cannot log in and gets the message 'Maximum number of users exceeded'.
There is the occasional mention of this on the web, but it seems to be poorly documented that there is a formal limit for connections into a Panther machine vai AFP. Can anyone confirm this.
One obvious workaround is to get OS X Server. I actually used to run 10.1 Server on this machine, but I was more comfortable using the regular client version which does all we want it to do.
One workaround would be to automatically log out people who has not accessed the server for, say, 30 minutes. I have not found software which will do this. Any ideas?
