John Siracusa has announced he will no longer produce his famed OS X reviews. Not for Ars Technica. Not for anyone. He's done.

OS X major releases will never be the same.

It's a darn shame. I used to read his reviews religiously. He didn't dumb it down for convenience - instead, he dove into the nuts and bolts. Until an answer made sense.

It is kind of sad. I never read his reviews religiously, but I did read bits and pieces of them, and they were good, but kind of seem to be less technical over the years.

The best Ars comment was that he will return when Apple replaces their antiquated file system with ZFS or similar. Good comment. That along with Apple's font issue with Terminal.app (which Apple fixed), was his main griefs with OS X.

I wonder what he will do next.

I'm a big Siracusa fan. Listened to his entire run of Hypercritical and currently listen to the Accidental Tech Podcast... but yeah, his reviews were always more than I could handle. I would skim them, read the parts that interest me... but ultimately, they were just more information than I required or desired.

I won't miss them, but I understand that it's an end of an era.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Good for him. I skimmed most of his OS X reviews, but being that thorough has to be back breaking.

Anandtech's OS reviews are just as thorough, anyway.

I'm late to the party, because for some reason he never registered on my radar until this thread.

I've heard the name. He has a memorable name.

They have a pretty big Apple section, and though it does center around the hardware, there's a lot of info on their OSes too.

I've read them since the first, and while I don't necessarily agree with all he says, there is lots of good info in them. I will miss them.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I read all of his reviews quite religiously, and I liked his unique voice and take on each version of OS X.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
