Is there a reason why you're skipping the 7S and going for the 2018 release?

Well, they'll probably get some out in 2017.

Scanning the article there will be 7S/plus and 8. The 8 with an OLED screen, the S with LED screens.

But there seem to be indications...
1) It's going to be popular despite costing over $1K.
2) The supply chain won't be able to handle it.

Well I hope so, and hope not. The company I work for is in the process of merging with Qualcomm, both suppliers in some form to Apple.

They could charge $2,000 and it'd still sell like hotcakes.

$2K would give me pause.
This is opposed to $1100, which is close enough to what I pay every year anyway, it's not even a speed bump.

Speaking of supply chain, rumor is Apple's bought all of LG's OLEDs.
Other rumor is they've killed TouchID on the 8 for facial recognition.

It could cause problems, especially if it's as sketchy as TouchID was on rollout.
Or even the way it is now.
On the 7, they got rid of problem trying to stuff a sensor inside a mechanical part, and have had a bunch of generations to tighten things up.
Moisture (i.e. sweat) still borks it.

I think the rumour is bogus.

Solved by my soon to be employer.

I doubt Apple shuffles Touch ID in favor of face recognition after pushing it so hard, adding it to Macs etc.
Adding it as an option (or for security nuts, perhaps in addition) to fingerprints makes sense though.

I agree, but there's definitely strength to the rumor of it lacking a sensor in the screen.
One theory is they stuff it in the lock button.

That makes more sense than putting it on the back.

And in Qualcomm's case apparently now a litigant as well.
Ouch.
