I somehow doubt that a $30 price drop is going to do much for sales. If MS wants to pull ahead of the GameCube in sales again, they're going to have to make it a 2 way battle at the $100 mark, which will not happen anytime soon because the Xbox costs much more than the GameCube to produce.

Either way, this isn't good for Sony. They werent comfortable going to $179 because they don't like taking a loss on the system, they cant afford to as easily as Microsoft can. Sony will be even more reluctant to go to $149. Even then, if Sony wants PS2 sales to pick up again, they need to market the system as the midway system between the GameCube and the Xbox (which is what it is seen as anyways), that means a price of around $129. Wont happen though.

Price drops are nice, but this really doesn't change anything.

And they're losing a lot of money. But I guess that's not the point, the point is to run the competition out of the market, monopolize it, then increase the price to $799 with annual license fees per person, pet, or carbon based organic object.
