Edmunds.com review: 2005 Legacy and Outback

Dang, for a preliminary "First Drive" review it's longer than many of their full road-test reviews!

Sounds like Subaru got it right ... if I were car-shopping this summer instead of last summer I'd take a good long look at a Legacy GT turbo wagon. Sweet!

Although ... what's up with no premium stereo available in the GT? Hello, aftermarket.

Unfortunately they stayed pretty conservative on the Legacy exterior styling:

The Outback almost looks better to me (and this is from someone who is not a fan of the current stodgy Outback):

Anyway ... they're supposed to be arriving at dealers by the end of the month. I might have to test-drive a GT just for the heck of it!

Hrmm... it's nice but the front could have been a little more.. unique. All the cars seem to look the same nowadays.

They let some SVX drivers test drive them in Reading PA a few weeks back. I guess they're pretty cool.

The turbo Legacies are finally hitting NA shores. After selling my JDM Legacy B4 RSK (turbo) when I moved back from Tokyo earlier this year, this is probably the best news I've heard in a while!

What Zimph said.

Oh. And we need to execute all the headlight designers to make way for some new ones who might actually have a clue.

Is it just that you prefer the sedan over the wagon? I dunno, the lighting in that pic makes it look sleeker, but here it still looks kind of 1990s Accord-like:

These are the subies that got reclassified as "light trucks" or "SUVs" to evade fuel economy standards, no?

I like the new outback, better than the current model anyway. It's more sleek, more like the old one I have. I'm glad to see that when I'm on the market again, I'll be able to find a used 05...

the new legacy looks more or less like every other wagon out there though.

and that new sedan is HAWT.

That's the forrester, and it's not to evade fuel economy standards, it's to sell... they advertise it as an SUV that gets great gas mileage, when in fact it's just a station wagon with a taller suspension.

That was the Outback. The Outback sedan was the one that drew all the outrage, even though they sell only about eight of them per year.

That's what I always thought about SUVs. I have this thing for hummers though because they remind me of brinks trucks

They still look aweful. Good cars, but worst styling ever.
