Playing with an iPod Touch at the weekend, I tried using the .Mac webmail, but it crashed every time I tried to type a subject. Can anyone else confirm if they've been able to use .mac webmail on a Touch ?

Maybe it was just a one-off, but if there is a problem with .Mac webmail it's a deal-breaker for the Touch for me....

I can't answer that at the moment, at least not until I receive my ipod but I recall iPhones having the same issue a few months ago.
I guess Apple will resolve the issue on a future update....

Same thing happened to me on the iPhone -- twice in a row when selecting the "subject" line. I was able to send a message by doing something different (changing the order that I filled things in or something -- I can't recall). It's ironic that Apple removed the mail app from the touch without making sure that their own web mail worked. That said, I expect this to be fixed sooner rather than later.

macfixit reported that some bookmarks can cause crashes. You all might try removing all bookmarks and see if the crashes persist.

thanks for the info. I'm hoping Apple will wake up and realise the demand for 3rd (and even 1st) party apps on the Touch, and give use the ability to load new apps on the Touch. Heck, I'd even pay a reasonable amount for the iPhone Mail app....

From Macworld:

and finally – but most criminally – the .Mac website itself doesn’t work properly. Consequently you can’t check your .Mac mail account, which makes the lack of a Mail app even more galling

I was chatting with a friend yesterday and he also said his .mac mail won't open on his touch.
Here's to hoping apple opens it up a bit when leopard is released.

The cynic and conspiracy theorist in me says it's deliberate. I get the distinct impression Apple would rather you bought an iPhone to check your mail on rather than an iPod. I could be wrong, but it seems a lot of effort has gone into making sure the iPod Touch isn't just an iPhone sans phone ability.

Apple does retarded things on occasion, but this is beyond retarded. When you can't access your paid-for Apple email on an Apple internet device, heads should roll.

Apple contributes to the anti-dotMac crusade yet again. Smarten up already!

Seriously. SERIOUSLY? I'd been considering a touch as a .Mac subscriber, but this thread alone just saved me $299-$399, so thanks! What on Earth is Apple thinking?
