What's with this?

So I get home from work and plug my 10 GB iPod 3 into my iMac. The battery begins "Charging," as indicated on the iPod's screen.

Before I go to bed, I notice that the iPod is fully "Charged," which also is indicated on the iPod's screen. Even though it's fully charged, I leave it plugged in... Because that's what I always do. Never had a problem with this behaviour in a year+ of use with my original 5 GB iPod.

I wake up and get set to grab my iPod and head off to work and it's dead. Just the battery alert icon on the screen. So what the hell is up with that?

---

I believe it may have something to do with the backlight. Seems about half the time I charge the iPod 3, the backlight comes on and stays on... Even though the Backlight Timer is set for 5 seconds. In order to get the backlight to turn off, I have to manually change the Settings to the Backlight Off position. I never had to do this on the 5 GB device.

So is this something many of you are experiencing or do I need to take my iPod 3 back to the Apple Store and exchange it? And if it is a known bug, any speculation on the timing of a software update for this and other issues?

i seem to have the same problem, Just shut it off instead of living it on. Since when its hooked up to the computer. The computer has to be on in order for it to charge. The iPod still thinks its connected to the computer so it stays in. This kills the battery. If you want to charge your ipod without the computer, use the wall adapter. If you want to keep your iPod pluged into the computer. Just turn it off when you turn the computer off.
