When I open system preferences, I no longer see the icon for my .Mac settings, nor is .Mac listed under "View" in the menubar. Where did it go? My previous settings are still in effect. I tried deleting the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file from my user>library>preferences folder, but that didn't restore my .Mac icon.
All help is appreciated.

Note that all other preferences in System Preferences appear to be in order.

Try trashing com.apple.preferencepanes.cache in ~/Library/Caches

in the folder System Hard Drive>System>Library>PreferencePanes there should be a file named Mac.prefPane. This file was present on my iBook but missing from my affected iMac.
I copied the Mac.prefPane file from the iBook and placed it in the correct folder on the iMac (I needed to log in as Root to do this).
Problem solved!
Thanks to Angus who got me exploring again.
