We're a publishing workgroup that serves most client files and creative assets -- Quark files and lots of graphics (TIFFs, JPEGs, EPS files) -- off of one 120 GB hard drive in a G4/450 running OSX 10.3.9.

The group consists of four G4/450 -- all with the same permissions and access.

They are networked in GB ethernet with a switch.

Does OS X Server provide any real performance boost?

Thank you for any assistance!

Xsan would provide a larger speed boost than just a single RAID. It also provides redundancy and easy backup abilities.

However, a RAID solution hooked up to a machine dedicated as a server would be an excellent first step if all you want is a speed boost. (you still have a single point of a failure here--if the server goes down, everyone goes down.)
