Maelstrom was the Asteroids game, though I thought The Zone was waaay better.

I can't remember the name, but there was a tank game, like Battle Zone, that my old roommate and I used to play on my IIci.

A couple of ones that no one's mentioned yet - Out of this World and Flashback. Both were by Delphine and ported by MacPlay. Those were two of the most fun games I played as a child.

Another long-time favorite of mine was Glider Pro.

Apache Strike was older than System 7. It came out sometime around 1987 or so, so it probably had some form of System 3.x on its boot floppy. I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have had a chance in hell of running on System 7...

As long as we're going for the really vintage stuff, someone might as well mention World Builder. At least you could get World Builder games to run on System 7 if you turned 32-bit addressing off.

I remember a game in grade school on these small i believe mac colors - dont now if it was system 7 - i think it was called gunshy - it was just matching tiles

A lot of old games can be found here. Yes, it's 100% legal as the software falls under "abandonware."

Yeah, it was a great game, although it was way too tempting to smash the other player with a block just to piss them off (I remember there was one level we always had a really tough time passing because of this - you'd take a bunch of time to set up the various pieces on the board so they'd be just right... and then one player decides to smash the other right as he/she comes by...

It was more the whole rubber-band mechanism. We would see how far we could stretch the band and then watch them fly everywhere. The physics were awesome.

Except that the OS X version of it really sucks, and to play it you really need to run the OS 9 version in Classic... which you can't do under 10.5 anymore. So yeah, it's dead.
